'Corporations control much of the means of meme propagation, and they wield that power to devastating effect, foisting a few thousand ads, logos, marketing concepts and political slivers into our brains every day. In a sense, however, it all boils down to a single message: "You must consume." This message has altered everything, from the foods we eat, to how we get around, to the way we love and the way we lust, to how we frame the big issues that surround us. The question now is whether or not civil society can build its own meme factory, put out a better product and beat the corporations at the game they've dominated for so long.'
